About Us

Introduction

Established in November 2006, the Company combines the expertise of its founders in seeking to acquire and operate a portfolio of freehold out of town food led destinations. Sites will operate a co-located restaurant and food hall focussed on local and regional fresh food offerings. The aim is to maximise the use of freehold assets to deliver returns to investors.

Company strategy is to establish profitable operations on an initial site before acquiring further sites.


Our Markets


Growth in the dining-out and premium food markets is underpinned by evolving consumer aspirations; increasing consumer mobility and a backlash against the binge drinking culture. Destination sites which provide both dining and retail offerings appear to be increasingly popular for a broad range of consumers.

The Team 

David Bruce, the Executive Chairman, is also Non Executive Director of The Capital Pub Company PLC, which he co-founded, and has been involved in the international brewing and leisure industry for over 40 years in a career that has covered both production and retailing. David founded Bruce’s Brewery and the first Firkin pub in 1979. The Capital Pub Company PLC raised over £15 million under the EIS and was admitted to AIM in June 2007. Convivial London Pubs PLC, which David also co-founded, raised just under £16 million under the EIS.

Kris Gumbrell has 20 years’ experience of the hospitality industry especially in relation to expanding businesses. Most recently he was Chief Operating Officer of Close Imperial Pub Company. Previously he has been involved with the formation of two EIS schemes and was the longest serving operations director in Greene King PLC.

Tom Newey joined the team in January 2008.  Following a banking career in the City, he has been successfully involved with several start up enterprises including a farm shop venture in Cornwall, his homeland.

Gordon Montgomery, FCA ~ Part-time Finance Director. Gordon is an independent consultant and has taken on the responsibility for all financial matters in the CF&D Group. Having trained as a Chartered Accountant with one of the ‘Big 4’ that is now part of PwC, he has spent his subsequent career in venture capital, corporate finance and as a company turnaround specialist, in both financial and managing director roles.

Exit Strategy

Country Food and Dining will seek a liquidity event after the three year period by way of a trade sale or return of cash to Shareholders.
